New York City Private Charter Airports

New York City is the most frequented US departure and destination in Private Aviation. The city is the center of finance, fashion and entertainment and home to private jet owners and operators. The New York Metropolitan area is home to three major commercial airports of JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark International airport, and 4 popular private jet airports within convenient driving distance from Manhattan.

KTEB – Teterboro Airport, New Jersey

The most popular private airport nearest to New York City, is Teterboro airport in NJ. This exclusively private aviation airport across the river from Manhattan is the hub for the private flyers working or residing in Manhattan. Located along Hwy 1, it is just across the George Washington Bridge, and a short distance from the Lincoln Tunnel.

Teterboro airport is the oldest New York Metro area airports in continuous operation since 1919, taking up most of the entire borough of Teterboro city surrounded by residential areas. Being close to residential neighborhoods, it has noise abatement procedures in place with a late hour curfew, and weight limit of 100,000 lbs., both being a voluntary curfew, meaning aircraft can land or take off during these late hours, with the operator getting a letter requesting to refrain from such practices, followed by the operator’s privileges affected after too many warnings.

TEB is home to about 100 charter aircraft, and many more Part 91(privately operated) jets of varying sizes. The airport is a frequent stopping point for daily transient aircraft, as operators from other airfields utilize TEB to pick up passengers, and aircraft often stop here to wait for their future mission. Teterboro has 2 runways, a 7000’ North-South runway, and a 6000’ South-West to North-East runway. Both runways are long enough to support all sizes of private jets, but due to Teterboro’s popularity and proximity to other New York commercial airports, it often experiences delays. There are 5 FBO maintenance operators at Teterboro, several of which also serve as charter operators located around the entire field with many entry points able to serve specific client preferences.

KHPN – White Plains – Westchester County Airport

White Plains is second most popular private jet airport in the New York Metro area situated in Westchester County adjacent to Manhattan with easy access to the city via roads, highways and passenger vehicle-only arteries such as NY parkways. Westchester being an affluent residential area is, home to many high-income residents and as such convenient to their homes located in elegant residential neighborhoods.  HPN is home to several commercial airlines with a small commercial terminal.  Westchester has more Part 91 aircraft than any other airport in the country, being the home-base for many Fortune 500 companies flight departments.  White Plains is also convenient to the affluent neighborhoods or Greenwich, and Stanford Connecticut and being well North or New York’s 3 Commercial Airports, it experiences lesser air traffic delays than Teterboro.

FRG- Farmingdale – Republic Airport

Farmingdale airport is on Long Island, East of New York City, along Hwy-111 nearest to Manhattan. FRG is an exclusively private aviation field, allowing for quicker take off land landings due to little traffic.  Farmingdale has two jet-length runways in a perpendicular pattern allowing for good access in all winds and inclement weather. There are 2 major national FBO operators at Farmingdale.

ISP Islip – McArthur Airports

Islip airport is also on Long Island, East of New York City along the I-495 corridor a few miles further East from FRG.  Islip is also a Commercial airport with private flights subject to slight delays during busy Commercial traffic.  Islip has 4 runways, 3 jet-length, and one turbo prop length runway. There are 3 FBOs at Islip.
